Last year, we launched a voluntary mentoring program at Ahjo. As a Great Place to Work, continuous development motivates us, and many of us are lifelong learners!
We formed three mentor–mentee pairs who were eager to learn from one another. Our goal was to create a light and flexible program in which the mentee sets the pace and the agenda—the program was designed for them. We met about five times, roughly once a month. At the beginning and at the end of the program, we discussed goals and tools together, and finally evaluated the benefits and lessons learned.
Comments from the participants:
- “I got to talk about myself as a professional for an hour with someone.”
- “I learned that mistakes are an opportunity.”
- “I recommend it. It helps to have someone who asks questions—you actually get things done.”
- “Padel wall.”
- “I recommend it. Every two years would be good. At this stage of my career, development is fast.”
- “It’s good to talk with someone else.”
How does mentoring help us develop?
- Speeds up the transition from theory to practice
- Aligns ways of working and improves quality
- Develops professional and interpersonal skills
- Strengthens commitment and reduces turnover
- Grows future experts and key people
The Ahjo mentoring program will continue and will launch again at the beginning of 2026!
